• Attribute is intended to provide information about the element content
• Bad use of attributes:

• Good use of attributes:

  <product>
     <description>Toaster</description>
     <price currency="USD">29.95</price>
  </product>

• In this case, the currency attribute helps interpret the element content:

  <price currency="EUR">29.95</price>
